Framing what we see.

A window, a door, an opening is a visual passage way, as well as in some cases a physical passage.

Just as we frame art, photography, or film, we can create frames in architecture and dimensional design. Directing the eye, calling attention to a space, or an environment or a view.

I like to use sculptured and layered frames that serve as function and engage the eye with reveals. In the case of what is shown here the openings create air flow, light and shadow, and separation of functional areas. This project Casa J had no glazing, only large sliding windows on bedroom terraces.

The shapes and openings themselves are art playing with the light and shadow.

Design should engage you on many levels.

Designing what we see.

Nature first, then light, then design a building that plays with both, then take a photo of what happens.

Shadows from a tree draw on the sculpture of the building creating a pattern.

The design is constantly in motion moving with the sun.

Nature, design, architecture, creating a sense of place and reason for being.
